FAQ - Shower Installation

Frequently asked questions about glass shower enclosures and the installation process:

What is tempered glass?
Tempered glass is a safety glass regularly used in applications in which annealed glass could pose a threat if broken. Tempered is four times stronger than annealed and if broken shatters into very small pieces, unlike annealed, which breaks into large shards.

How thick is glass for frameless showers?
The glass is typically 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2" thick.

What is the difference between frameless, semi-frameless, and framed shower enclosures?
Frameless enclosures leave the edges of the glass exposed. Semi-frameless enclosures are a hybrid of Frameless and Framed, they leave some of the edges exposed, creating a nice blend of the two. Framed enclosures use an aluminum frame to capture all edges of the glass, leaving no glass edge exposed.

Does my price include hardware?
Yes, our quote includes all hardware, materials and labor required for a complete installation.

What is the lead time for frameless showers?
It typically takes approximately seven to twelve business days from the time we measure to installation.

When can I begin to use my shower?
You should wait 24 hours after installation to give the silicone sealant time to cure.

Do you offer free estimates?

What are the finish options?
The most popular options are Chrome, Brushed Nickel, and Oil Rubbed Bronze, but other choices exist.

Credit Cards and checks are accepted.

Can you hinge a shower door on a glass panel?
Yes, if your specific configuration will allow it, we can mount the door on a glass panel.

Can you replace a framed enclosure with a frameless enclosure?
Yes, however the tiles that were drilled for mounting the framed shower may need to be replaced.

Can you fix a fogged window without replacing the glass?
You cannot properly fix an insulated window without replacing the glass and seal. We will leave your window frame intact, remove the faulty glass, and replace it with a newly sealed insulated glass unit.

What is Low-E glass?
Low-E stands for Low Thermal Emissivity. Low-E coatings are important in the performance of a window and can affect the overall heating, lighting and cooling costs of a home. Low-E is a virtually invisible metallic coating used to reflect heat back to its source.
